Bitcoin ETFs Bleed $635 Million in Biggest Outflow Since June — Streak Over?

Bitcoin ETF 635 million outflow October

US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $635 million on Thursday — the biggest single-day outflow in four months. The exit snapped a three-day, $1.08 billion inflow streak and pushed October back into the red, and traders are now watching Friday's flows to see if the selling continues.

Key points:

  • Bitcoin ETFs saw $635M in net outflows on Thursday, the largest since June 25.
  • The withdrawals erased Wednesday's $528M inflow and left October $175M in the red.
  • BTC slipped to about $81,000–$82,500 on the day; altcoin ETFs were mostly red too.

The numbers tell a sharp story. Thursday's $635.5 million in net outflows more than wiped out Wednesday's $528 million inflow, according to SoSoValue data — and it flipped October's monthly total to $175 million in the red. It was the largest single-day exit since June 25, when the funds lost $696 million, and it ended a three-day run that had pulled in $1.08 billion. For a market that was starting to believe the ETF bid was back, this is a cold splash of water.

Bitcoin's price felt it. BTC traded between roughly $80,996 and $82,551 on Thursday, down from Wednesday's intraday high near $84,777, and was changing hands around $81,783 at the time of writing — about 1% lower on the day, per CoinGecko. The slide came as weak tech earnings dragged stocks lower, the same mood that has been weighing on risk assets all week.

For traders, the honest read is mixed. A $635 million outflow is real money walking out the door — and the biggest one-day exit in four months usually means big buyers are pausing, not buying the dip. But the weekly picture is still positive: the funds hold $443 million in net inflows for the week, after two straight weeks of outflows before this week's rebound. One heavy day does not make a trend; two or three would.

What happens next?

All eyes are on Friday's flow numbers. Another big outflow day would confirm that the $1.08 billion rebound was just a pause in a longer exit — while a quick return to inflows would frame Thursday as a one-day wobble. The pain was not only in Bitcoin: Ether ETFs bled about $111 million on Thursday, with Solana and Hyperliquid ETFs also in the red, while XRP ETFs bucked the trend with roughly $3.6 million of inflows. If the broad ETF bid keeps leaking, the $80,000 level becomes the line traders will defend next.
