Bitcoin is starting a busy new week near $83,000, while Ethereum is holding close to $2,500. After last week's sharp swings, traders are now waiting for fresh US inflation data that could decide the next big move for the whole crypto market.
The main event is the US September CPI report, due on Wednesday, October 14. Headline inflation is expected near 3.7%. A higher number could worry traders who hope the Federal Reserve will stay soft on rates, while a lower number could bring relief buying back into Bitcoin and altcoins.
ETF money is still sending a mixed signal. US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in about $21 million on October 9, with BlackRock's IBIT bringing in about $22 million on its own. But over the last five sessions, Bitcoin ETF flows are still down about $679 million, which shows big investors are staying careful.
Ethereum funds look weaker. Spot Ether ETFs lost about $56 million on October 9, their ninth straight day of outflows, with about $697 million leaving over those nine sessions. Until these flows turn positive again, many traders expect Ethereum to struggle more than Bitcoin.
Two more events add risk this week. A crypto options expiry worth about $1.25 billion is set for Friday, and token unlocks from projects like Aptos and Arbitrum will release new supply into the market. Unlocks can pressure prices if early holders decide to sell.
For traders, the plan is simple this week: watch whether Bitcoin can hold $83,000, watch the CPI number closely, and watch whether ETF flows finally improve. One big surprise in any of these could move prices fast in either direction.
