BREAKING: Bitwise Dogecoin ETF Trades for the Last Time — BWOW Closes With Under $1 Million After Less Than a Year

Dogecoin DOGE price news Bitwise ETF BWOW last trading day closes liquidation trading

The Bitwise Dogecoin ETF, traded as BWOW on NYSE Arca, had its final day of trading on Wednesday, October 14. The fund is closing less than a year after it launched on November 26, 2025, and a Form 25 filing with the SEC on October 13 confirmed it will be removed from the exchange listing.

The numbers show why the fund could not survive. BWOW started with about $2.5 million in seed money, but ended with only around $700,000 in assets, holding roughly 8.2 million DOGE. More than $1 million had flowed out since launch, and daily trading volume had fallen from about $3 million in its first week to only around $50,000.

For anyone still holding shares, the timeline is now fixed. No new shares will be created from October 15, the fund's Dogecoin will be turned into cash, and remaining holders should receive a cash payout around October 22, based on the fund's value on October 21. Holders do not need to take any action to get that payout.

Bitwise chief executive Hunter Horsley said the problem was a gap between two groups of buyers: traditional ETF investors were slow to put money into Dogecoin, while Dogecoin fans prefer to hold the coin directly instead of through a fund. The contrast inside Bitwise itself is sharp — its Solana staking ETF is close to $900 million in size, and the company still manages about $9 billion in total. Bitwise said this closure is part of streamlining its product range.

For traders, BWOW is an important warning for the whole altcoin ETF market. It is the first well-known case of a new altcoin fund launching, failing to attract money, and then closing, which shows that getting an ETF listing does not guarantee demand. Dogecoin was recently trading near $0.084, and traders will now watch whether other small altcoin funds can build real volume — or follow the same path.
