BREAKING: BlackRock Drives $150 Million in Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF Selling — Ether Funds Hit 10 Straight Days of Outflows
The new trading week started with more money leaving US crypto funds. Spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs together lost about $150.8 million on Monday, October 12, according to Farside Investors data, and almost all of the selling came through funds run by BlackRock, the world's biggest asset manager.
Bitcoin ETFs lost $65.4 million in total, and every dollar of that came out of BlackRock's IBIT fund. Other big Bitcoin funds, including Fidelity's FBTC and Grayscale's GBTC, were flat on the day. Bitcoin ETF trading reached about $1.23 billion, with net assets near $106 billion, so the selling was smaller than last week's roughly $681 million outflow, but buyers are still not coming back in size.
Ethereum looked weaker than Bitcoin. Ether ETFs lost $85.4 million, led by about $75.1 million leaving BlackRock's ETHA fund, while Grayscale's Ether Mini Trust lost about $10.3 million. That made it 10 straight trading days of outflows for Ether funds, which have now lost roughly $789 million so far this month, after losing about $542 million last week alone.
For traders, the pattern matters. The selling is now concentrated in the biggest and most liquid funds, which suggests investors are trimming risk through BlackRock's products rather than rushing out of every fund at once. Still, Bitcoin has been holding in the $82,000 to $83,000 area despite the weak flows, which shows spot buyers outside the ETFs are still stepping in.
The next few flow reports will be key, especially with US inflation data also in focus this week. If Ether ETF outflows stretch into an eleventh day, traders may keep treating Ethereum as the weaker of the two big coins, while a return to ETF inflows would be the first clear sign that big investors are buying again.
