BREAKING: Celestia Explodes 16% as Altcoins Beat Bitcoin — Altcoin Season Index Jumps to 60 While BTC Holds $82,000
Altcoins took the lead on Friday as Bitcoin stayed calm near $82,000. Celestia (TIA) was the star of the market, jumping about 16% in the day, while traders slowly moved money away from Bitcoin and into smaller coins.
Bitcoin was little changed since midnight, trading around $82,100 after bouncing back from a dip near $81,600 in the early hours. That is safely above Thursday's brief fall below $80,000, its first drop under that level in a month. Ether added about 0.5% near $2,450, and the wider CoinDesk 80 index gained about 0.46%.
Behind Celestia, Injective rose about 7.7% and LayerZero added about 7.3%. In total, about four out of every five coins in the CoinDesk 100 Index were higher, and CoinMarketCap's Altcoin Season Index jumped to 60 from 50 a day earlier — a clear sign that altcoins are now beating Bitcoin over the recent period.
The calmer mood also came from the US Federal Reserve. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, speaking at IMF and World Bank meetings in Bangkok, gave no clear signal about the central bank's next move later this month. After his speech, the odds of an October rate hike fell to about 15% from almost 30%, Treasury yields stayed mostly stable, and Asian stocks steadied, with South Korea's Kospi up about 2% and Japan's Nikkei up about 1.4%.
For traders, this is a rotation story, not yet a full bull run. When Bitcoin holds a key level like $82,000 and smaller coins surge, short-term traders often chase the faster altcoin moves — but those moves can reverse just as fast if Bitcoin loses support. The next test is whether Bitcoin can keep holding above $82,000 while altcoin gains spread beyond a few top names.
