BREAKING: Mystery Whale With Only 1 Loss in 15 Trades Opens $60.7 Million Ethereum Long — Already $2.6 Million in Profit
A mystery trader on Hyperliquid has placed a huge bet that Ethereum is about to bounce. On-chain trackers say the whale opened new Ethereum long positions worth about $60.7 million, around 24,000 ETH, buying close to the low of the day near $2,420 after ETH had dipped to about $2,429. By the time the trade was spotted, it was already showing about $2.6 million in unrealised profit, with Ethereum back near $2,527.
What makes this whale special is its record. The trader created four new wallets about four months ago and has closed 15 trades since then, with only one loss — a tiny $3,866 loss on a one-minute Ethereum short. Total profit so far is about $29.75 million, and most of it, around $28.2 million, came from earlier Bitcoin long trades, not from Ethereum.
The timing is bold. Leveraged bulls lost about $688 million in liquidations in a single day as Bitcoin and Ethereum slid together, and many traders were forced out of their positions. While that selling was happening, this whale stepped in on the other side and bought the dip, betting that the worst of the fall was already over.
The bet is not risk-free, and the whale's full picture is mixed. Two older open positions are still losing money, including a 10,000 ETH long down about $1.9 million and a smaller Bitcoin long down about $97,000. After counting those losses, all of its open positions together sit on a much smaller net profit, which shows how fast a big leveraged trade can turn.
Big fund investors are moving the opposite way. US spot Ethereum ETFs have now seen 10 straight days of net outflows, totalling about $782 million since late September. So while one confident whale is buying Ethereum on a decentralised exchange, traditional ETF investors are still reducing their exposure.
For traders, the key levels to watch are the whale's entry area near $2,420 as support and the $2,520 to $2,530 zone Ethereum is trying to hold now. If Ethereum stays above the entry area, the whale's bet will look stronger. If the price falls back below it with more liquidations, even a trader with this record could face heavy losses, so position size and risk control matter more than copying any single whale.
