BREAKING: Russia's Moscow Exchange Opens Crypto Trading on December 1 — Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Tron Go Live
Russia's largest stock exchange, the Moscow Exchange (MOEX), plans to start cryptocurrency trading on December 1, 2026, under the country's new digital-asset law that took effect on September 1. Testing with professional traders is already running and will continue until launch, according to reports from October 8 citing senior managing director Boris Blokhin.
The first lineup is expected to cover five coins: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Tron. MOEX will not build a separate crypto venue. It will use its existing trading-organiser licence and stock-market infrastructure, trades will settle through a partner digital depository where participants open accounts, and reports say no extra permits are needed for the launch.
Access will be tiered. Qualified investors will be able to trade all the listed coins with no amount limit. Ordinary investors will be limited to Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether (USDT), capped at 300,000 rubles per year through each intermediary. Every investor, whatever their status, must pass a test and read the risk warnings before trading.
The wider system is also getting ready. On October 6 the Bank of Russia registered its first operators under the new law — four crypto exchange operators and five digital custodians. Sberbank, the country's largest bank, is on the custodian list and plans to launch its own crypto products on the same December 1 date, supporting Bitcoin, Ethereum and USDT through its banking apps.
For traders, this matters because a major traditional stock exchange is bringing crypto into regulated stock-market pipes. That could add new demand and liquidity for the top coins, especially Bitcoin and Ethereum, and other countries will watch how it works. But the launch is still weeks away, real liquidity and trading pairs are not yet proven, and crypto still cannot be used for domestic payments in Russia under this framework.
