Cross River Bank Puts Ripple's RLUSD Inside Its Core Banking System — 24/7 Dollar Settlement Opens for Fintechs
A US bank has put a crypto stablecoin right inside its main banking system. Cross River Bank announced on October 15 that it has partnered with Ripple to integrate RLUSD, Ripple's US dollar-backed stablecoin, into its core banking platform, giving fintech companies a new way to move dollars around the clock.
The integration runs through Cross River's Core Operating System and is reached with a single API connection. Fintech clients can move between US dollars and RLUSD and settle payments at any time, while still using the bank's normal services such as ACH transfers, wire transfers and real-time payments through the same platform — without building any blockchain technology of their own.
Speed is the main selling point. Payments on the XRP Ledger typically settle in about three to five seconds and cost less than a cent, and the companies say the service is built for cross-border payments, treasury transfers and same-day settlement. RLUSD now has a market value of more than $2.5 billion, and the XRP Ledger has handled more than $1.3 trillion in value to date.
For traders, the news matters because a stablecoin inside a regulated bank's core system is a step toward everyday institutional use, not just crypto-exchange trading. The deal also drew extra attention because Cross River provides banking infrastructure for X Money, the payments service linked to Elon Musk's X platform — though neither company has said X Money will use RLUSD, so that part is speculation for now. The new service is starting in only a limited number of US states.
What traders will watch next is simple: how many fintechs actually start using RLUSD through the bank, whether access spreads to more states, and whether XRP Ledger payment volumes climb. A wider rollout would strengthen the case that stablecoins are becoming a normal part of US banking, which supports demand for the networks behind them.
