A mystery whale has made a big rotation trade that traders are talking about
today. On-chain tracker Lookonchain reported on October 12 that the whale sold
410.14 Bitcoin, worth about $34.16 million, and then bought 14,341 Ethereum on
a decentralized exchange, a purchase worth about $36.14 million.
The timing makes the move interesting. Bitcoin is holding near $84,000 after
recovering from about $80,300 last week, while Ethereum trades around $2,550,
still weaker after a difficult week in which ETH fell more than Bitcoin. In
simple words, this whale sold the stronger coin and bought the weaker one.
That is also against the recent fund trend. United States spot Ethereum ETFs
have now posted nine straight sessions of outflows, and spot Bitcoin ETFs lost
about $681 million last week, their biggest weekly outflow since June. While
many fund investors have been pulling money out, this one large buyer was
adding Ethereum on-chain.
For traders, the key question is whether this is the start of a wider
Bitcoin-to-Ethereum rotation or just one wallet rebalancing. Traders are
watching Ethereum near the $2,600 resistance level, Bitcoin support at about
$82,000, and United States inflation data due October 14, which could move the
whole market.
One whale trade alone does not make a new trend, and large wallets can change
their plans quickly. But when a $36 million Ethereum buy appears while ETF
flows stay negative, it shows that big buyers are still willing to step in at
these prices — a sign of confidence that the market will be watching closely
in the coming days.
