PancakeSwap's locked value has jumped nearly 19% in just one week, adding about $380 million to reach $2.4 billion. Traders are now watching the CAKE vote that opened today, because it could pay liquidity providers much more while cutting new CAKE supply by about 69%.
Key points:
• PancakeSwap TVL climbed to $2.4 billion from about $2.02 billion on Oct. 14, and its V3 pools more than doubled to about $739 million.
• The governance vote called "The Flip" runs Oct. 21–24 and would lift liquidity providers' share of swap fees to 88%.
• Daily CAKE emissions would fall about 69%, from 22,500 to 7,000 tokens, if the proposal passes.
The scale behind the jump is large. PancakeSwap handled about $4.67 billion of trading on BNB Chain in the past seven days — roughly 71% of all the chain's exchange volume — and holds about $2.33 billion of its $2.40 billion TVL on that network, according to DefiLlama figures reported by Cointelegraph. BNB Chain itself is hot: its total TVL rose about 8.3% in a week to $5.84 billion, and its exchange volume surged about 40% to $6.54 billion.
In simple words, the proposal changes who gets paid. Today, liquidity providers — the users who park their coins in PancakeSwap pools so others can trade — keep about 66% to 68% of swap fees on most pools. The Flip would raise that to 88%, while printing far fewer new CAKE tokens each day. Fewer new tokens can mean less steady selling pressure on the CAKE price, but some farms that live on those emissions could earn less.

What happens next?
Voting closes on Oct. 24, and if the plan passes, the changes are expected to start rolling out in November. Traders will watch two things: whether CAKE's price reacts to the planned supply cut, and whether the TVL jump holds after the vote or fades if the proposal fails. Growth is also coming from tokenized stocks — Binance's bStocks, which trade on PancakeSwap, passed $1 billion in assets on Oct. 15 — so a fee change here reaches far beyond regular crypto pairs. Nothing is final yet: until the vote ends, this is a proposal, not a done deal.
