Thailand is about to give its investors a brand new way to trade Bitcoin and Ethereum. The country's Securities and Exchange Commission has finalized the rules for crypto ETFs, and the framework takes effect on October 16. From that date, local fund managers can launch ETFs that track Bitcoin or Ethereum and list them on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
The change also opens a door for bigger money. Thai mutual funds and private funds, which until now could only use foreign crypto ETFs, will be able to invest in the new domestic funds. Foreign crypto ETFs, however, will stay limited mainly to institutions and very wealthy investors, so the focus is on building a home market first.
For traders, this matters because it brings Bitcoin, which is holding near $84,000, and Ethereum, which is trading above $2,500, into normal brokerage accounts — no crypto exchange account and no wallet to manage. It does not mean a fund will start trading on October 16 itself, because each manager still needs registration and approval, but it is another clear sign that regulated ETF access to crypto keeps spreading across Asia.
