Blockchain.com has launched options trading on seven coins — Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, HYPE, Avalanche, XRP and Tron — and the most a trader can lose is the premium they paid upfront. The launch brings simple, defined-risk price bets to one of crypto's oldest platforms, just as the company pushes for US licences to offer derivatives and prediction markets.
Key points:
• Options are now live on Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, HYPE, Avalanche, XRP and Tron, with expiries of up to one week.
• Trades are funded upfront in USDC and the minimum premium is $5 — the amount paid is the maximum possible loss.
• Contracts must be held until expiry and cannot be sold or closed early.
The product is built to hide the complexity of normal options trading. A user picks an expiry date and a target price, enters how much they want to put behind their view, and reviews the trade — Blockchain.com then converts that view into the matching call or put option. The contracts are funded upfront in USDC through the company's Trading Account, and because the premium is paid in advance, losses can never grow beyond it. The catch is flexibility: once bought, an option must be held until it expires, and it is only available in supported jurisdictions.
The launch is also part of a bigger US push. Earlier this month Blockchain.com applied for US regulatory licences to offer prediction markets and crypto derivatives at home. International users can already trade prediction markets through its Polymarket link and perpetual futures through Hyperliquid, so options fill the gap in a growing derivatives toolkit aimed at everyday traders, not just professionals.

What happens next for US traders?
For traders, the timing matters: demand for options jumps when prices swing hard, and this week Bitcoin traders have been paying up for downside protection. A $5-minimum, capped-loss product could pull in smaller traders who find full options platforms too complex — but the real prize is the US market, which depends on those licence applications. Traders will watch whether US approval comes through, and how much volume the new one-week contracts attract against established derivatives venues.
