BREAKING: Pump.fun Brings 40x Bitcoin Leverage to Memecoin Traders — Hyperliquid Perps Go Live Inside the App
Pump.fun, the Solana platform best known as the home of memecoin launches, has made a big move into leveraged trading. On October 16 the platform announced perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid, so its users can now open leveraged Bitcoin and Ethereum positions without leaving the Pump.fun app.
Perpetual futures let traders bet on a price without owning the coin and without an expiry date. Instead of building its own trading engine, Pump.fun is using Hyperliquid's existing order book and liquidity. Hyperliquid's HyperCore system handles orders, margin balances, funding payments and liquidations, while Pump.fun provides the software interface and says it is not a counterparty to the trades. Reports on the updated terms say Pump.fun can charge a builder fee of up to 0.10% of an order's value, with a separate bridge fee of up to 0.25% possible on transfers.
The leverage on offer is aggressive. Bitcoin positions go up to 40 times leverage and Ethereum positions up to 25 times. The launch builds on an earlier step in August, when Pump.fun added support for Hyperliquid's HyperEVM network for USDC spot trading. Traders are tapping a large liquidity pool — Hyperliquid's perpetual market recorded about $12.43 billion in daily trading volume in late August.
For traders, this changes what Pump.fun is. A crowd that came for fast memecoin launches can now jump straight into high-risk futures on the two biggest coins, which could pull more volume onto Hyperliquid. But the risk is extreme: with 40x leverage a small price move against a position can wipe out the collateral, liquidations are automatic, and the terms warn users can lose everything they post. The service is also barred for users in the United States and Ontario, Canada, and in other restricted places.
The real test will be usage. A rival platform for retail traders added Hyperliquid perps back in June, so Pump.fun is also defending its audience against competitors with more advanced trading tools. Open interest, volume and the platform's next revenue update, expected in early November, will show whether memecoin traders actually want leverage inside the same app — or whether this stays a risky extra that most users should treat with great care.
