BREAKING: Solana's Big Shanghai Event Postponed After Registrations Quadruple Overnight — China Tour Opener Halted
Solana's big China push hit a sudden stop on Friday. The Solana Accelerate event in Shanghai, which was set to open a four-city tour of China, has been postponed after interest in the event grew far faster than expected.
Solana Foundation president Lily Liu said on X that pre-registration quadrupled overnight after publicity for the event, pushing sign-ups past the attendance cap set by local authorities. Organizers decided to delay the Shanghai stop so they could meet local requirements. Earlier on Friday, some social media users had claimed the event was shut down abruptly, with officers seen at the venue.
Shanghai was meant to be the first stop, followed by Hangzhou on Sunday, Shenzhen on Tuesday and Beijing on Thursday. The postponement also came just days after Solana executives promoted a new Shanghai office earlier this week, which makes the timing a sharp setback for the network's public push in China, where many crypto services such as trading, fundraising and mining remain restricted.
For traders, the news itself did not crush Solana's price. SOL was still up more than 3% on Friday near $106, helped by a broad market bounce as Bitcoin held above $82,000. That calm reaction suggests traders are treating this as an event and compliance problem, not a problem with the Solana network itself.
Still, traders will watch the next stops on the tour closely. If Hangzhou, Shenzhen and Beijing go ahead smoothly, the Shanghai delay may quickly be forgotten. If more stops face trouble, it could hurt sentiment around Solana's growth story in Asia, one of the world's most active crypto regions.
